Private Story Likes Feature lets users like someone's Instagram
Instagram has introduced Stories likes, a new, simple way for users to interact with Stories content. Stories likes allow you to 'like' any Story in your feed and notify the creator without needing to start a DM conversation.
In a video posted to Twitter on Tuesday, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced the launch of Private Story Likes. You can now interact with a Story by tapping the heart icon, just like you would with a standard feed article, thanks to the latest update. The like button, which is located between the Send Message option and the paper airplane icon, does not send the user a DM notice. Private Story Likes, unlike ordinary Instagram posts, will not display a count. They will appear in the viewer sheet, not in your DM thread with them, said Mosseri.
This could be a good way to learn more about broader user response, while also providing a simple feedback mechanism for creators. It always feels better to see how people are responding, and reducing the pressure around DM responses for stories seems like a positive step.
